United Mercantile
About Us

History
In January of 1911, a brave visionary by the name of William A. Meyer borrowed $300.00 from his wife, left a steady job with another agency and started his own firm known as United Mercantile Co. of Pittsburgh. It took him exactly six days to pay back the loan. Despite the great depression, countless recessions and two world wars, UMC has thrived ever since.

Associations
United Mercantile Company is a member of the American Collectors Association (www.collector.com), the Better Business Bureau and the Commercial Collection Agency Association (www.ccascollect.com) of the Commercial Law League of America (www.clla.cc). We are bonded and insured according to their requirements. UMC maintains an independently verified trust account for all client funds.

Corporate Objective
UMC’s objective is to build a partnership with each client to develop a plan to reduce days sales outstanding and maximize dollars collected. We provide consulting services, pre-collection letter writing services, pre-collection outsourcing programs, as well as collection programs specifically tailored to meet your individual needs. For clients who place a large number of claims, we can develop standard operating procedures to insure your accounts are handled just the way you wish. We welcome the opportunity to discuss with you a comprehensive plan to handle your receivables from the day they apply for credit to the day they are collected. Remember, a sale is not complete until the money is in the bank!
